Freight trains return to Mildura line

Freight services have returned to the Mildura rail line following major track upgrades as part of the Murray Basin Rail Project.

A container train bound for Melbourne departed from Merbein earlier today, marking the return of services on this major freight route.

The train will travel to the Port of Melbourne via the recently reopened Maryborough to Ararat line, which has also been upgraded through the Murray Basin Rail Project.

You may still notice work crews and heavy machinery completing final track works and crossing upgrades.

To ensure your safety and the safety of others:

  • Always obey the warning signs at level crossings and take care around rail lines.
  • Comply with and observe all directional signs and barriers
  • Be aware of heavy equipment operating within sections of access roads near rail lines
  • Drive at a reduced speed on approaching any work activity or level crossing
