Murray Basin Project: Maryborough - Ararat Works

The return of trains to the historic line follows a six-month work program, where crews have laid more than 130,000 concrete sleepers, distributed almost 200,000 tonnes of ballast and used 7,600 tonnes of steel rail. The upgrade and standardisation of the Maryborough to Ararat line and the Mildura line will enable an increase to axle loading from 19 tonnes to 21 tonnes, so more grain and freight can be moved by rail.
