'Return of Freight Trains' - Ararat to Maryborough

Stay safe as we prepare for the return of trains

There will be increased work activity, truck traffic and heavy rail equipment across the project area prior to the resumption of freight services.

To ensure your safety and the safety of others, please be vigilant around trains, tracks and work sites:

• Always follow road rules and obey all warning signs, barriers and traffic management at level crossings.

• Be aware of heavy machinery operating along the rail line.

For communities between Maryborough and Ararat, road users should be aware of changed road conditions and prepare to wait for trains to pass through level crossings.

Road users should also be aware that in an effort to improve safety for road users, some level crossings have been upgraded to include boom gates, bells and flashing lights, and some have been closed permanently.
